How to Choose the Right Glass for Your Home

Glass does more than let light in. In Indian homes it becomes partitions, shower enclosures, cupboard shutters, balcony railings, and façade panels — so the right specification matters as much as the look.

Start with where the glass will live. A bathroom shower screen needs toughness and water resistance. A living-room partition may prioritise clarity and acoustic comfort. A balcony railing must meet safety expectations. Matching the glass type to the room saves rework later.

Toughened (tempered) glass is the everyday workhorse for doors, partitions, and tabletops. It is heat-treated for strength and breaks into small granules rather than sharp shards. Laminated glass sandwiches a PVB interlayer between panes — better for railings, skylights, and anywhere fall protection or sound control matters.

Finish is the next decision. Clear glass maximises light; frosted or acid-etched softens views for bathrooms and office cabins; tinted glass cuts glare on west-facing façades. For kitchens and wardrobes, lacquered or back-painted glass gives colour without the maintenance of paint on timber.
